Driver Impression:

This is a great highway truck. the HJ61 is very powerful, quiet and comfortable. most of these units come with a full load of options including power windows, door locks, and mirrors, suspension seats, air conditioning, superior sound systems, outside and inside temperature read out, altimeter, sound deadening through out, raised roof and a power sunroof. it truly is the civilised Land Cruiser. the automatic further makes for a quiet ride with no transmission gear whine.

The HJ61 can move this heavy truck down the highway at 140 km/hr all day with never a whimper. even with the sunroof open at highway speeds a normal conversation can be carried on.

Fuel mileage and observations:
The HJ61 is not easy on fuel. the combination of a heavy truck with a powerful engine and an automatic wreaks havoc on the normally great fuel mileage of a diesel. it is still much better than the gasoline engines but not a good as can be. i feel the biggest problem is that when you have the power you tend to use it more. the ride is beautiful. firm but not jarring at all, you could almost say a soft ride. the transmission shifts extremely smooth through all the gears. i do recommend that in the city the auto be driven in "3" instead of "D" since you are driving mostly at the transition speed for the torque converter to keep hunting up and down thus wearing out the clutches. i also recommend an auxiliary transmission cooler be installed since it is heat that kills these transmissions.

Summary:
The HJ61 will be the last highway cruiser you will ever need. comfortable and quiet and powerful. just a sweet, sweet unit.
